Restorative
Most people have fillings of one sort or another but today, because we are much more conscious of our smile, we can choose a natural looking alternative, the composite or tooth-coloured filling.
A composite resin is a tooth-coloured plastic mixture filled with glass (silicon dioxide) first introduced in the 1960s. Originally only used for front teeth because of their softer nature, modern improvements to their composition make them generically suitable today.
Root Canal Treatment
Our dentists can perform root canal treatment to stop the infection from spreading using special tools that are used to remove the inner infected material. They will preserve as much of your tooth as possible. You will receive a local anaesthetic and the treatment overall should feel no different to having an ordinary filling placed. The aim of the treatment is to remove all infection from the root canal. The root is then cleaned and filled to prevent any further infection. The tooth will then be filled with a permenant filling or a crown may be required. In cases where the tooth is badly damaged, a post is likely to be inserted to give additional support for the crown. The addition of a crown also gives extra strength to the tooth which may have become weakened as a result of the procedure.
Root canal treatment (also called Endodontics) is needed when the inner soft materials of a tooth (often referred to as the pulp) becomes infected through tooth decay or damaged by an injury to your mouth. This infection may spread through the root canal system, which could eventually lead to an abscess, causing a great deal of discomfort. If root canal treatment is not carried out, the tooth may need to be taken out.
Crowns, Veneers and Bridges
Crowns
Dental crowns are used to repair and protect damaged or weak teeth. A crown will often be recommended where there is too much damage that can be repaired by a simple filling or inlay. The weak or damaged part of the tooth is carefully removed and covered with the crown, which is bonded to the remaining tooth. The result is strong and hard-wearing.
Veneers
Veneers are a thin layer of tooth coloured material, usually made of porcelain and individually made to fit over the front surface of a tooth.
Bridges
A bridge is used to replace a missing tooth with a fixed solution. There are several types of bridges but the most common is by crowning the teeth either side of the gap and joining them together with a solid crown in the space. Fewer bridges are made these days because of the advantages of implants but in some instances they may be the preferred option.
Orthodontic, Sure Smile Aligners
Rebecca has a special interest in Orthodontics and can offer Sure Smile Aligners, a nearly invisible aligner which can straighten teeth without having the visible train-track system. Removable custom made Aligners are used to treat minor movements or more complex cases.
Tooth Whitening
Tooth whitening is a safe and effective way of lightening the shade teeth without damaging them. Standard whitening involves an initial appointment where a scan of your mouth is taken to create a custom made mouthguard to use at home with our whitening gel.
Dental Implants
Implants are one way of replacing missing teeth. They are small metal devices like a screw fitting which are inserted into the jaw during surgery. Teeth in the form of a crown, bridge or denture, are then attached to the implant.
Recent advances have made implant treatment cost-effective and faster than before.
Will Gate will soon be placing Implants at the practice.
Oral Surgery
Will Gate is now accepting referrals for Oral Surgery from all local dentists. Some of the services he provide include; Complex surgical extractions, apicectomies, exposure of canines and enucleation of cysts. We have recently installed a CT scanner at the practice which enables us to take Cone-beam CT scans and Panoramic images.
Hygiene Therapy
We care about the overall health of your mouth. At each Dental Health Check your dentist will assess the health of your mouth, teeth and gums. If necessary we will refer you to one of our three friendly hygienists. Maintaining a healthy mouth is not only beneficial for your teeth and gums, but can be beneficial to your general health. We want to help you in every way we can.
